Sullington Manor Farm has a huge amount of engagement with the public through the cafe at The Old Workshop, St Mary’s Church, Sullington and the hundreds of miles of public footpaths and public bridleways through our farm.
At Sullington Manor Farm we are currently working with Linking Environment and Farming (LEAF) to engage local communities with farming and food production. We are in the process of organising school visits, when able, to introduce children to the countryside and animals.
Get involved
We, in collaboration, with LEAF have created and recorded a video encouraging young people to find careers within the farming industry. We are taking part in the Big Farmland Bird Count in February to note which birds are currently residing on our farm and the positive impacts of conservation schemes. Three key birds on the farm – the Skylark, Buzzard and Yellowhammer form part of our interactive table in the cafe at The Old Workshop.
Grahame Kittle is part of the Arun to Adur Farmers Group which is a collective of the farmers covering 22, 239 acres between the Arun and Adur rivers which is delivering a number of projects to enhance the farmed environment at a landscape scale.
In one of the most recent projects, the common theme was communication and engaging with the public so with the help of South Downs National Park Authority (SDNPA) some members created short videos within a series named ‘Meet the Farmer’.
The videos can be accessed by mobiles on a stretch of the South Downs Way for each farmer to introduce themselves and explain what they do on their farm. Grahame’s video is part of the series, if you would like to watch it please click here.
